Simple necklaces for a simple guy

Postby tonyterner on Fri May 30, 2008 12:34 pm

I've been making some necklaces from my cabs. As they're mostly for me I keep them pretty simple. I just use some mirco-suede or braided cotton cording and a few gold or silver beads. Nothing great but at least I get to wear my cabs. I've sold a couple to friends but never expect to make any real money off of them. Maybe just enough to support the habit. lol

Those look really nice, Tony. Not being into neck jewelry myself, I had not imagined marketing cabs to men for necklace. But those are nice.

I like 'em! They look good and should appeal to most people. Nice work.

Great way to make use of your cabs.

Jewelry for men is a tough subject....literally. A lot of men dont consider jewelry masculine enough. I think the things to keep in mind are simplicity, clean lines and not a lot of decoration.

When cabbing for males I generally make cabs that are angular and not rounded..........squares, triangles etc. Wrapping is very minimal. Just a border wrap and a bail. Beads probably would not appeal to some men but everyone certainly has their own style which is why making your own jewelry is so rewarding. You can make it exactly how you want.

I really like the Seraphinite. I have never worked with that material.

Nice work Tony,
You'll have to get a website soon. You are turning out some real nice pieces.

Thanks all. I'm not really into selling or I would have a website for my turnings. I can make a lot more on them than I could on cabs. I just do it for fun and will sell to people I know. I will be redoing my website one of these days and will divide it into a woodturning and cabbing site.

Nice work, Tony. I like the simplicity. And interesting re what men like.

Which is very confusing. I did some bolas, here in the West men wear them sometimes, they can be VERY fancy. But my husband never wears the one I made him.
