value of minerals

Postby sweetinmt on Tue Mar 24, 2009 12:16 pm

I don't post much on the forum but thought I'd ask you all if there was any way to place a value on a mineral specimen aside from what was paid for it. I have numerous specimens I collected so don't have any idea how much they would be worth. I'd like to at least get a general idea so I can put that in my mineral database for my collection. Any ideas on how to find out or place a value on a specimen?
Thanks

Hi Sweetinmt,
I think the fastest, and easiest way to get an idea of mineral value is just to cruise Ebay and see what similar minerals go for. Another way is to find someone at your local mineral club and see what they say. But Ebay is pretty good for getting ideas as to value. After looking at many minerals you will get a "feel" for what the value is.
Hope that helps a bit,
Thanks for posting,
Dan
