What is Tenginzite?

Postby Ealaiontoir on Fri Jun 06, 2008 11:49 am

Has anyone hear dof Tenginzite? I purchased a cab from eBay because I thought it is pretty. I've looked it up online and in all of the gem/mineral/rock books that I have and could not find it anywhere. I would like to know what I'll be working with (properties, composition, etc.). Are any of you familiar with it?

In case a picture helps, here's a picture from the eBay auction.

Looks like glass slag to me. I've been doing lapidary for many years and have never heard of it. Those colors in conjunction with each other aren't commonly found in natural material. Try a scratch test to see how soft it is. Does it have any included round or stretched bubbles indicative of flowing glass? Do any of these bubbles show as pits on the surface?
Hope this helps.

Good call. Now that you've mentioned glass, I can see how that would fit. I really hope it's not, that would be some pretty major false advertising. I'm going to contact the seller to see what he says. I don't actually have the piece in my hands yet, it's being shipped as we speak. I have some gemstone identification tools, so I'll run a few tests when it arrives. I'll post what I hear from the seller and the test results. Thanks!

I did a google of that stone name, and the only thing I came up with was the ebay results, that you pointed out. I tried a couple variations on the spelling, but nothing. Bobs guess is the best one so far. It is a pretty cab,
