Swirlstone bottle holder

Postby Joe on Sat Feb 23, 2008 12:29 am

Here is a Swirlstone bottle holder I am working on. I still need a way to attach a bail to it.

Uh, what is the bottle supposed to contain?

I'm making this for some people I know who sell perfumes and scented oils. They sorta challenged me to come up with a way to fit a bottle into a stone when I saw them last year. Once it's done they will hopefully sell it!

I've done this with wood but never stone. I gotta believe its much easier in wood. LOL The stone is very pretty. How did you drill out the hole?

Thanx Tony. I put the stone in a small wooden vice and set it in a pan of water. I have a Dremel drill press and I used it to hold the tool steady. The hole was cut with a 3mm core bit. Swirlstone is somewhat soft so it didn't take too long to drill.

Joe, check Kingsley North for a glue-on loop. Alternatively, you could drill two small holes on opposite sides to accept a spring bail of piano wire.

Now that is a neat idea. I really like the colors in the stone. Its probably a good thing you used a soft material...trying to drill that hole in agate or something would make me crazy. Let us know if they end up selling them.
