mystery agate

mystery agate

ok what kind of agate is this? it apears to be in a quartzite matrix.

When you say "what kind" are you meaning where do we think its from or what type (like banded, orbicular etc)? If you know for sure that it is agate (scratch test) but have no clue where it came from, its best to just give it a generic name like agate unless you get a positive locale from the person you got it from. . Or call it an agate mix. I dont usually tack on a specific name unless I have pretty good proof of where it came from. This helps avoid confusion when you buy and sell materials.

yes i was hoping someone could help me determin a local/type. i have no intention of selling it just drives me nuts not knowing what it is lol.

yep i hate not knowing what it is. i am sure it is a true agate but the location it came from is elusive.

Yes, looks like a banded agate or some sort of lake agate. Where did you find or collect this rock? This might close down the type of rock and help you in your quest.
