Hi Steve,
It does look like the varisite I've seen. Is the picture showing the color right? It's a nice cab!

Dan,

Yes, it's a nice dark green. A lot of the whiteness in the matrix is due to the lighting. I have never seen Variscite with all that internal (looks like) fracturing, though. It is a very pretty cab in person!

I haven't really seen the fracturing either, the color is about right, it almost looks like some rough Emerald I have.
I love the color.

Steve,
Most of the Variscite that I have seen has a mini-crystalline, light green, semi translucent appearance.
I'm not sure what it is but I doubt that it is Variscite.

I have variscite from different areas and have to say the dark green color looks right for the variscite from the Candeleria Nevada area but I have never seen any with that type of thick black matrix. It may be from out of the USA. Looks nice in any event.

Yes, it is variscite. This cab you have is from the new find in Nevada I believe. I just read about the new find and that it has a black matrix and host rock. The pictures look just like your cab.  Lucin Utah variscite has a creamy matrix like most other deposits. However this deposit has a black rock, and it is in the Candelaria mountains. I love variscite from this area it can come in a very dark green and be hard and gemy. I think it looks awsome with a black matrix. I am going to try to get my hands on some myself if possible.

Blarney,

I agree. Even though you can pay a premium price for the Turner Mine Variscite, I REALLY like this material. Sadly, sold it right after it went on my site.

And I cannot remember where or from whom I bought it. It just turned up in a random rock bin search.
