Hello rock people

Postby kitimatdude on Fri Jun 19, 2009 12:38 am

I recently got a small (6") saw I think its a trim saw and a bunch of cool looking rocks. I'm interested in this hobby and found this forum. I used it today and cut a rock (one form my gravel parking lot) as a test and it cut great! I held it by hand and fed it into the blade. I read many of the posts on the site tonight and I'll read more tomorrow. Party2 RockOn

Hi Kitimatdude,
Welcome to the group, and welcome to the hobby. Be sure to post pictures of your cut rocks when you get to cutting them. Feel free to ask questions! Where abouts are you from? I'm in Oregon. Make yourself at home, and again welcome,
Dan

Hi Dude! Welcome to the group.
Warning: once you get started on this hobby there is no going back. You will be hooked for life!!! You start with a saw, then a tumbler, then a grinder, Dremel, flat lap, a bigger saw... It never ends. Along the way you start to produce some cool lookn' rocks! Hope you have a lot of fun in this new hobby!!!

Sorry it took me awhile to get back on here. My digital camera kinda died so no new pics. I'm tackling a couple of projects, I'm making a large rock tumbler out of a truck tire (I found the plans/idea on the internet). and I'm making a large rock saw 16" blade with a sliding vise/clamp all in a box to keep the oil in there. I guess after that I'll need a polisher for the flats. then maybe a grinder.

edit: Oh I'm from Kitimat BC Canada.

I like your attitude! You always need more equipment! The more you get the more cool stuff you can do to polish stones.
Just curious, are the Truck Tire tumbler plans you have the ones from Alan Silverstein? I have met the man and he is super helpful!!! I have some of the stones he tumbled in his machine. It is still going after many years.
Here is a site that is very helpful for making your own equipment.
