Greetings from Minnesota!

Postby serendipity_stones on Wed Jun 17, 2009 7:54 am

Hello,
I am a 3rd grade teacher and I get to teach rocks and minerals to my students. I polish about 50 pounds of Lake Superior agates in the summer and give them to the students for prizes and rewards. I just took the class up to Royalton, MN and we spent the day digging up staurolite crystals. FUN!

I also love making cabochons. I make and sell them on eBay. The money I make allows me to buy more stone. I save and polish all the scraps from my trim saw and throw the shiny stones in the pearock on the playground for the kids to find.Image

Hello S-S,
Welcome to the group! Nice cab you showed, (Botswana agate?). I think greaser is from Minn also. Must be a lot of fun getting those superior agates. That's great you spark interest in kids by giving away pretty stones, I do that at shows. Glad to have you aboard,
Dan

That's a beautiful Botswana Agate! This material can have some real striking patterns but it does tend to spontaneously fracture or fracture from the mechanical or heat imposed on it during the cabbing process.

Hi SS - I'm sorry to say your stone isn't displaying for me. I'm new too so I may need to look at my settings or something. My wife's a teacher so I thought I'd say "hi."
