Burro Creek Jasper Hunt

Postby rocknut on Tue Apr 15, 2008 11:30 pm

Not sure if this is right spot for this subject, but could not find a area on 'rock hunting'. Went out yesterday collecting Burro Creek Jasper here in AZ. Found some nice pieces and will post pixs once I cut some slices later this week. Had a close call on our first search. Was walking between two juniper bushes when I heard the mistakenly sound of a rattler. Not sure what happened next, but I do remember looking down at the rattler as he moved in the opposite direction. I had told my wife I did not think I needed to wear snake gators. Live and learn is my motto.

Hi rocknut,

Wow, close call. Glad to hear the rattler decided to move in the opposite direction.

Just for future reference, you can put your rockhunting posts in the field trips/locations sub-forum. Thats the place to talk about your latest adventure...I'd say meeting up with a rattler was a definite adventure, and one Im sure you dont care to repeat. Yikes.

Hey Rocknut,
Watch out for the rattlers. When I was younger my Dad took me to the Gold country of California, We got out of the car, me being young, headed down the trail before anyone else, I turned a corner and there was a rattler sunning it's self. I ran back and told Dad, he didn't believe me, UNTIL he walked down the trail, and got the same rattling welcome I did. Needless to say, we watched where we went much more closely. I heard carrying a walking staff and shaking the bushes ahead of you will help get them out of the way, or at least alert you to there presence. Look forward to seeing the pix of you find,
Dan
