Another Rock Enthuisiast from NY

Postby MMBien on Mon Jul 20, 2009 7:51 pm

Hi all. I'm not so good at introductions so I'll cut to the quick. I'm RockHoundChick's (Crystal's) boyfriend. Been a native new yorker all my life and have always loved hobbies that put an emphasis on slow and careful workmanship. This is more than evident with my hobby in bowyering (if I can get good enough at both hobbies I'll try combining the two, a maple longbow with inlaid stone on the handle might be fun). I'm a complete beginner at the shaping/tumbling/polishing part of this but I've always had an eye for stones that were different. I'm currently in the design phase of building a rock saw (possibly a larger slab saw with a variable speed control) and few other tools. If they work well I will gladly share designs and building tips. If you guys have any questions fire away and I'll gladly answer them.

Mike.

Hi Mike,
Glad to have you aboard. I made two of my slab saws, One is a 12" and the other has a 24" blade, but will take a 36" blade both built from scratch. If I can help you in any way, I'll do my best. I would love to see pix of your bows. They would be cool with stones inlayed in them. I'm learning to knap, but it takes a while to get real good.
Glad to have you as a member, we'll do our best to answer questions you have,
Dan
