Hello all! I am a Youngen from New York who has always been obsessed with pretty shiny bits and even the not so shiny bits. I have recently purchased a couple of sets of diamond burrs and cutters so that I could find out what all these pretty little rough rocks that I find are (hopefully). I have lots of questions and have a lot of stones that I haven't been able to identify. One such question is what books are the best for identifying rough stones? Another question is; Does anyone know what kind of gems or semi-precious gems can be found in New York. I have found a ton of quartz, smokey and rose alike, but those are the only ones I can really be sure of. So I will be posting some pictures of the goodies I find. Perhaps someone will be able to tell me what they are!!! Nice to be part of the group!!

Welcome to the group. Glad to have you. We would love to see your pictures, and we will do our best to help you out on ID's. I'm in Oregon, so don't know much about collecting in NY, I know you guys have Herkimer Diamonds, . Make yourself at home, and ask away on the questions, we'll do our best.
